A new experience awaits guests at Bel Ombre, on the island’s south-west coast.
The 4-star Tamassa stands at the end of a long avenue of mature coconut palms towering skywards.
A picture postcard landscape stretches across sugarcane fields to the mountains beyond. The south-west is the most unspoilt part of Mauritius, with spectacular walks and drives through lush, tropical hillsides and a range of open-air activities in beautiful countryside.
In front of the hotel, beyond the sandy beach, lies a turquoise lagoon that almost blends into the skyline. The sea air is invigorating and the ripples of the waves gently calming. Beyond, lie thousands of miles of open sea.
The traditional style architecture ideally suits the tropical setting, with beautifully landscaped gardens. The buildings seem at one with the environment. The décor is breathtakingly contemporary, with clean lines and bold use of colour. The atmosphere is one of eternal youth, friendly, cheerful and enthusiastic. Tamassa is a new Mauritian experience!
Rooms
Standard Rooms (43m²)
The décor is strikingly attractive, with pure, simple lines contrasting with bright green touches on the bedspreads, and an inspired image of a bird of paradise on the wall above the headboard. With the terrace door wide open, the colours in the Room seem to blend with the trees and plants outside.
Each Standard Room has either a queen-size bed or twin beds. The bed cover, specially designed for the hotel, gives an immediate feeling of intimacy.
A sliding, wooden door opens up to reveal a spacious bathroom, bathed in natural light. As well as a corner bath, there is a separate shower cubicle edged in sintered-glass tiling, 2 washbowls on stands and wardrobe space. The toilet is behind a separate door.
The use of solid wood for all the doors and many of the fittings, gives a warm, rich feel to both rooms.
Superior Rooms (46m²)
Warm, sunny colours envelop the room. The décor is attractively uncluttered, with clean, contemporary lines offset here by touches of red orange.
An image of a huge, orchid stands above the wooden headboard and the touches of orange in the curtains and the uniquely designed bedcover are intoxicating.
The bathroom has a bath, two glass washbasins, a separate shower edged with decorated sintered-glass tiling, and a wardrobe. The toilet is behind a separate door.
The overall effect is invigorating, the kind of room that makes guests want to linger for a few weeks more.
Deluxe Rooms (49m²)
The orchid feature again predominates above the headboard of the queen-size bed, but this time shades of fuchsia are featured throughout to dramatic effect.
Kiatt, a wood from North Africa, is used throughout all the rooms. The clean, contemporary lines of the basic décor, offset here by the warmth of natural wood and the touches of fuchsia colour, have a simply stunning impact.
The bathroom has a bright, luxurious feel to it, with two white porcelain hand basins set on a taup golden marble stand and sintered-glass Bizassa tiling from Italy in the shower. The spacious bath, set in its own alcove, has marble surrounds.

Restaurant & Bar
Main Restaurant
The restaurant’s terrace overlooks the swimming pool.
Modern elegance greets guests, with gobos casting beams of light on the pure, contemporary lines of the interior, where shades of orange merge into rounded lines and cubic shapes.
The main restaurant is divided into three and based on the exciting concept of open kitchens, which adds a touch of theatre to the range of international cuisine. For the first part of the day, Tamassa specialises in lavish buffet breakfasts and lunches. Dinner is either à la carte or a sumptuous buffet.
Beach Restaurant and Bar
As the name would suggest, the Beach Restaurant and Bar is a place to relax, with your feet in the sand, watching the sea, having a hearty salad lunch or enjoying latin cuisine.
The dinner menu varies from themed evenings to buffets and to à la carte
Lounge Bar
You walk into the Lounge Bar to be greeted by bright, contemporary elegance.
White, blue and ochre shades add a warm glow to the wood, steel and glass surfaces and fittings, as if the sand and sea have inspired the unique décor, combining modern and traditional touches.
From the ceiling, globes of light add to the subtle atmosphere, reflecting in the ivory-coloured flooring and its bluish decorative tiling.
The main bar is split-level and surrounded by large, comfortable armchairs. Mauritius produces some excellent rums and Mauritians are very inventive with their cocktails, but guests can also choose from a wide variety of international wines, beers, spirits and liqueurs.
Spa
A tropical holiday is not complete without the luxury of a massage or beauty treatment. The spa, in its exotic setting, adds to that feeling of complete relaxation and well-being.
Gentle shades of green and khaki blend harmoniously with wooden fittings and the surrounding greenery, in an atmosphere of warm, tropical contentment.
The spa has 16 treatment rooms (14 double), a 12m long pool, a whirlpool, a sauna, a hammam, two changing rooms, 6 large relaxation beds, a hydro therapy room, a spa boutique, a hair dresser and a beauty salon for manicure and pedicure.
The 14 double treatment rooms all have a private garden outside, so guests can enjoy the idyllic surroundings.
