Stone Town is now home to the new MASHARIKI PALACE Hotel. This is the Eastern Palace on the islands, once the seat of the Omani empire spanning a thousand miles, created by the first sultan of Zanzibar almost 200 years ago. The domicile of the Sultan's religious councillor is now restored beyond its former magnificence.

The MASHARIKI PALACE Hotel is a privileged residence for travellers choosing refined hospitality in a historical setting.

The 18 no smoking rooms are all unique; the ground floor looks into the courtyard and has high ceilings, several have balconies, some have sea views, some have a living area or mezzanine floor, but all are enclosed in this original ancient palace with cool, thick walls, Arabian beds, stucco decoration and carved doors, bringing you the essence of old Zanzibar with a twist of modern chic.

Because the hotel is converted from the wing of the old palace, there are no two rooms the same. Each has it's unique and stylish features, either original or added.

The three general room categories that result from the imaginative use of the space are named after the three original areas of the old Stone Town nearby the palace, accessible from the hotel by foot along the narrow winding streets - Forodani: the seafront, Shangani: the residential area, and Darajani: the market and bazaars.

5 Darajani rooms are between 20-30 sqm meters and have all facilities listed, with typical Zanzibar features and details.

7 Shangani rooms are more spacious, between 30-45 sqm, and have either a small suite area or a courtyard balcony.

6 Forodhani rooms have further features such as sea views, mezzanine design, terraces or spectacular high ceilings.

Tea Lounge: Daily, free, in our tea lounge, the pastry chef offers a selection of savouries and tea cakes to enjoy with Zanzibar traditional morning coffee selection or afternoon spiced teas.

Kusi Bar: Ideally situated on the rooftop terrace with a breathtaking view of the Forodhani gardens, the Indian Ocean and the House of Wonders. Enjoy a choice of tapas with a glass of chilled Champagne or your favorite cocktail watching the spectacular African sunset.

Solarium and massage: Treat yourself to a a relaxing massage or hammam scrub to wind-down from your journey and prepare your body for the beach, or have a nap on the sun beds in our open terrace.

Excursions: Our concierge service is on hand to book local restaurants for you as well as to organise any Island excursion, including tours of the old town, sunset cruises, trips to outlying islands, spice tours, beach excursions, snorkelling, diving and other watersports and even to recommend various safaris to the fabulous game parks of Tanzania, a short flight away on the East African mainland.
